This study allowed me to look at a previous existing sequence, learn from it and use it to recreate it with my own visual flair.

Inspiration

Drawing Inspiration from Zoe’s Double Trouble Ability in League of Legends, I looked to Faust Messley’s work as a primary reference for my own design:

Studying

By studying Faust Messley’s interpretation and breaking the sequence down into seven core images, I was able to analyze each section and highlight his techniques. This deep dive significantly informed my approach to recreating the effect in Unreal Engine whilst given the creative freedom to explore other possibilities within the scope of the effect.

 

 

 

 

 

For instance, whilst the original inspiration features butterflies, I chose to use phoenixes, allowing for a distinct colour shift that set my work apart from the original. Combining a sine wave with vertex displacement achieved this flapping effect, creating a visually appealing yet very cheap result.
